Project 12 - May update #2

Time for updates!
  • Organize the kitchen. We did the pantry and the fridge, but the rest of it has been put off till next week.  I need something to do while I'm on leave.
  • Take back the garage. Done!  HOORAY!!!  I parked in there last night for the first time in 6 months!
  • Organize KLM's Room. All done! Even got her bookshelf set up.
  • Side garden area. Done.  Took about 10 minutes of bossing the hubby around and me waddling behind him to tell him where stuff goes.  I cannot tell you how good it feels to have it all in one place, organized!
  • Organize our schedules. So far, still looking good.  At the moment, I'm putting together of list of meals to make or have easily ready to make for when KLM arrives.  Yes, I am a bit OCD when it comes to organizing stuff.  :)

Project 12 - May update #1

Time for updates!
  • Organize the kitchen. UGGH... I have to do this one.  At least the counter tops are clean, but the cupboards... not so much. Maybe next week when our schedules cool down a bit.  :S
  • Take back the garage. We put up more shelves and cleaned out a lot of the stuff we needed to send to Good Will. We have about 4 boxes that we need to put back up in the storage space and then I can park in it!  HOORAY!!!
  • Organize KLM's Room. All done!  There is one shelf that is a little unorganized but everything is easy to find on it.  I think I might have to leave it this way until I figure it out.
  • Side garden area. Haven't touched this area.  I think I might tackle it on Sunday.
  • Organize our schedules. I feel like we are going from one meeting to the next.  Today, we carpooled because there was just no point to wait around for each other if we were going to go to the same places after work.  Schedule is packed but it's all set up on my google calendar.  PHEW!

Project 12 - May

New month, new project. This month is all about organization. Time to simplify your life by cleaning out your closets and drawers, tossing 9 year old bills that you had in the back of the shelves.

  • Organize the kitchen. I hate to admit but my lovely clean panty is not longer lovely and clean. Don't even ask about me about the cabinet near the sink...it's where big items get tossed. Time to change all this!

  • Take back the garage. Since the holiday season I haven't been able to park in the garage. This needs to change. It once was nice and clean. Now... not so much.

  • Organize KLM's Room. I have this feeling with all the clothes she's gotten by loved ones, she probably won't wear anything twice. With that being said, she has a TON of clothes and it's time to figure out how to organize that. Her closet is now getting filled with stuff and before she comes I'd feel a lot better knowing things have a place and not just stuffed in there.

  • Side garden area. There is an area on the side of the house where we kinda toss all the gardening tools, dirt, supplies. It's a mess and it needs to change.

  • Organize our schedules. The hubby and I have about a million appts now, either it being doctor appts or fitness classes, work trips or dinners. Time to figure out what we are really doing and not play the game, "what did we just forget to do?"

Do you have any area in your life that needs some organizing?

  • Set up BBQ and start cooking outside 4 times this month. Used it this week!
  • Instead of the gym, go take a walk at night Been taking strolls with the hubby and the pet mafia.

Project 12 - April

With April 22nd fastly approaching I thought it would be great to spend this month focusing how our lives affect our little Earth. I have lots of sites and info to share with you but like always, we need to set some goals on how we can change our life (even if it's just one little thing) to help make this a better place.

  • Spend the month without using paper towels. Something small but every little bit helps!

  • Set up a clothesline outside and use it 4 times This will help when KLM comes and with her reusable diapers.

  • Set up BBQ and start cooking outside 4 times this month. This will help cut down using electricity inside

  • Instead of the gym, go take a walk at night

  • Turn off the thermostat April is such a nice time where we live, but every night our heater kicks on. Let's pull out the blanket and add it to our bed to save some energy!

What will you do to help the environment?

    Project 12 - March

Happy March! Can you believe we are already into the third month of this year?

This month I thought it would be good to just focus on getting our hearts pumping and break a little sweat. Everyone's goals are different but in the end, we all just want to feel healthy. These are my goals for this month:

  • Start Pilate classes more on this later

  • Keep training for upcoming 5k (March 27) Want to walk 45 miles this month

  • Do yoga once a week

  • Take 2-3 walks during work

  • Do one fun exercise a week could be hitting golf balls, tennis, hitting the punching bag...etc

  • There you have it, my new goals for Project 12. I know they aren't as huge as I used to put infront of me but I'm finally being realistic, maybe it's knowing I just won't do a million miles in a month, or that I'm almost 6 months pregnant! :)

What are your goals for this month?

    Project 12 - February update #2

So far, I have to say this has been so much fun. Not just working on KLM's room, but just finishing projects that have been lurking in the background.

  • Get up to date on all our travel albums. (we make one album for every trip we take) Currently behind on 2-3.
Done... except for NYC/Philly Trip (will do this week)
  • Finish our daughter's room (paint side table and her initials for her room)
    Done
  • Create a height chart to keep her measurements that we'll be able to take with us if we ever move. Done. What I like about this is that we'll be able to measure her when she's still little and can't stand. We can just put the chart on the floor and measure that way. Simple and gets the job done.

  • Figure out a backing to mini table to hide nasty cords in the living room. YUCK! Done. This was way to easy.

    Before (please excuse the cobwebs)

After (All we used was a piece of black cardboard (that kids use for the science fair) and just cut a piece. Luckily I cut it very snug so it just fit perfectly without moving)

I think since there are a few days left, I might tackle one more project... but this one might need some help from LMP's momma. I can sew, but just can't work a sewing machine. Does that make sense? It's the whole thread thing that just throws me for a loop. But today I will be googling some "how to thread a sewing machine" and hopefully I can figure out this whole bobbin situation I have going or what I like to call it: Bobbin-Gate.

    Project 12 - February update #1

All in all, I've been really good on staying on top of this month's theme. I even felt a little guilty for not much for last month's so the next two weeks, I've already made the week dinner menu and did the prep work for all of them.

  • Get up to date on all our travel albums. (we make one album for every trip we take) Currently behind on 2-3.
Finally tackled our Cruise album, Costa Rica, and Hawaii. Only one left is the NYC/Philly trip we just got back from.
  • Finish our daughter's room (pain side table and her initials for her room)Finished her ititial's for her door:

    Here is the side table:

  • Create a height chart to keep her measurements that we'll be able to take with us if we ever move. Currently working on now
  • Figure out a backing to mini table to hide nasty cords in the living room. YUCK! Haven't touched this one yet.

Overall, I'm pretty happy with this month and have really enjoyed it. Do any craft projects lately?

    Project 12 - February

Well, better late then never right?

This month's project is about being crafty! Time to tackle all those projects you keep saying you'll do. Scrapbooks need updating? Get to it! Want to refinish that end table? Bust out the sandpaper and get moving! Here are my personal goals this month:

  • Get up to date on all our travel albums. (we make one album for every trip we take) Currently behind on 2-3.
  • Finish our daughter's room (pain side table and her initials for her room)
  • Create a height chart to keep her measurements that we'll be able to take with us if we ever move.
  • Figure out a backing to mini table to hide nasty cords in the living room. YUCK!

What types of things will you tackle this month?

    Project 12 - January update #2

So, the days we've been home, I've made dinner. Well, those days have been few and far between this last week. After getting over a cold, I had this ambitious idea I wanted to redecorate the media room. Everyone keeps telling me I'm nesting but to be honest, it was on our calendar before I even knew what nesting was. :) Anyhow, we've been busy with that. Tonight I'm going to try to make dinner in between finishing up some little things I want to start/finish before Friday!

What's been your favorite meal you've made this month? I think ours has to be garlic pasta with pesto turkey meatballs! YUMMM!

    Project 12 - January update #1

This month's project isn't going as planned. Right when I thought I'd be able to get back to cooking a cold hits. No fun! So this week we've been defying all the rules and eating like college kids (horrible unhealthy fast frozen meals or just cereal). I can say I am getting 5-6 servings of fruits in a day, thanks to my fruit basket that is at my desk at work. It's filled with tasty apples and large naval oranges. YUM!

I'm starting to feel better so hopefully I'll be able to get back into cooking, perhaps just crock pot style foods for the weekend. We'll see how it all plays out.

Are you starting to eat healthier since the new year?

    Project 12 - January

This month's theme will be about food. I know, I know how boring is that, but after how many effects I've made to crack down and stick with home cooked foods, I've always feel like we fall off the wagon. The last quarter of 2009, the hubby "cooked" all the dinners since I was always too tired to get in the kitchen. Now with most of my energy back, I want to take back my kitchen and get healthy again. No more burritos, unless it's homemade. No more soup from a can.

    Rules for this month:

  • Time to get more local and buy from the farmer's markets! I don't know about you but I'm very fortunate to have 4, yes FOUR, farmer's markets within a 5 mile radius of us.
  • Menu Planning in advance! Weekly menus to help make shopping trips a bit easier
  • One cheat day a week! This will only count for dinners. I know some of us have full time jobs and it could be hard to bring a lunch.
  • Shop from your freezer! It's high time we start using all that meat and veggies we tossed in there!
  • Cook a meal each week that never tried before!

    project 12
  • Changing things up...

After a few years of making to-do lists, I realized I have gotten lazy in finishing them. Don't ask how many miles I cycled last year or even if I finished all the albums I wanted to. So now it's time for me to start thinking out of the box to get stuff done without the infamous to-do list. Now I want to make sure I keep on this all year long even with a little rugrat due in June.

So, I present to you Project 12! 12 months, 12 new ideas or themes to accomplish! Each one will be something that will hopefully enrich our lives!

Each month a new project will be announced. I invite you to join in on the fun and tell us how it's going for you. I will post shortly about January's theme, with the tag: Project 12. Each month will be a new button to link to my site, if you'd like to publicly join in, I will post a link to your site so others can follow you!

Hope you'll all join in on the adventure!!!
