It's like the cherry on the top!

I'm a sucker for cake toppers. There were a few things that the hubby and I put our foot down on and the cake topper was one of them. We wanted something to show off our personalities and so we had these:

I figure if you are going to throw your signature onto this pile of flour, eggs and water, you might as well give it your little twist.

Here's a few others that I just love too:

I love the idea of using part of your theme instead of the cake toppers. Sometimes less is more...

Alternatives to Guest Books

When I think of guest books I think of all the fun little things you can say and the bride and groom read it once before they toss it in a closet. When searching around for different ideas, I found some really cool ones!

First there is the typical 16x20 photo and a matte where guests could sign it and have it hang in your house. I took it a step further and did smaller photos and made it into a series.

Next is a different frame to sign:

Use the pen just as you would a normal ball point ink pen. Only normal pressure is required. It is quite easy to use and guests will find that they are able to sign in the same quality as they would normally with a ink pen. Click here for instructions on using the engraving pen. Our pens are not mechanical and have a specially designed tip that inscribes into the metal when writing. There is no sound made from the pen when engraving. The pen will last through the signing and does not easily wear out.

The Wish Tree:

I really liked this idea and wanted to do it but it just didn't get done.

The puzzle pieces:

I saw this photo and thought how AWESOME it would be to take a photo of the two of you and create a puzzle with it, then have your guests sign the back of the pieces. OH I LOVE THIS IDEA!!!! You can send in your photo and get the puzzle made for you at Portrait Puzzles!

Dangling Tablecards

While sipping my coffee I saw this beautiful photo from Michelle Rago.

I instantly thought of the how beautiful table cards would be dangling from branches in the entrance of your reception venue. It's just a dramatic and unique idea that doesn't have to cost you a lot! You could even find some tree branches and even spray paint it metalics or any shimmer paint to give it a bit of a glimmer. You could even put it in a vase or attach it to a stand and to hide the stand a bit more, use some moss on the base to give it more of a green feel!

Oh my!!!

Table Decorations

I'm a huge fan of details. I'm not talking about details of what ink was used on menus but details on the place settings. Just think, your guests sit for at least 20% if not more at their seat and while they are there, they are taking in everything, especially what is in front of them! You don't have to spend lots of moola to make your tables look amazing. Too much makes the table too crowded, too little looks weird... but just enough... well, that's the key! Here are some amazing little things you can do to to liven up your tablescape!

And this one was just awesome! Using a leaf to as the placemat! IT's just too cool!

Decorating for an evening outdoor wedding!

Outdoor receptions can be soo magical! With the little touches of light here and there, it just makes the place sparkle and feel soo romantic!

When we looked at a venue for our reception, we saw this estate where the dancefloor would be nestled under two huge oak trees! If we had it there, I would have loved to hang something from them. Something like this:

Directions:
Tools and Materials
Drill with 1/8-inch drill bit

18- to 36-inch lengths of 3/4-by-1/4-inch wooden lattice strips

50- and 100-bulb strands of green wire mini lights (use 50-bulb strands for short icicles, 100-bulb strands for long ones)

Black all-weather electrical tape
Monofilament

Icicles How-To
1. Drill 1/8-inch hole at top of wooden lattice strip.

2. Tightly wrap lights around strip, starting a few inches from prong end and being careful not to let bulbs touch. Tape to secure at top and bottom of strip.

3. Loop monofilament through hole to hang.

Cutting out the excess...

With a bit of a blow (and probably more of gift from god), my little helpers (nieces) aren't going to be able to help with wedding day prep this weekend. Annoyed and put off, I think I should be happy that I don't have to deal with bickering teenage siblings! :) I know, I should be nice, but sometimes it's faster to just do it yourself than deal with drama.

I told my FI and he was a bit put off, him insisting I call friends up to help, I quickly snapped and told him he is helping me instead and should shut it. He realized I was tired and just got quiet and said okay. I even talked to my Mom and she said she was willing to come down for the day to help out with everything.

So what does Wedding Day prep entail?

  • Table placements --printing and putting them in the frames

  • Name tags -- print, stick on ribbon and stamp them with the table name

  • Put champagne splits in bags and place name tags on them

  • Table Favor bags --add tag to them

  • Print out tags for table favors

  • Put champagne splits in bags

  • Check all Chargers to make sure we have enough

  • Count out candles for tables and get votives for all of them

  • Get mini candles for the lanterns and place aside

  • Print out the rest of the Candy tags and place ribbon on all of canisters

  • Order medal scoops and tongs for Candy Buffett

  • Send programs to the printers

Okay... I think that's probably about it. I think that's the detailed version of the list. I remember thinking about all these things months ago and how I knew I'd work on them two weeks before the wedding. I wanted the last weekend to be relatively stress free. I guess we'll see!

Dwindling...

Other than the final two checks (flowers and remaining balance for the reception) I just finished ordering the candy and the table favor bags. Uggh... the last major payment will be the rest of the champagne splits but that will have to wait till later.

On top of that, I picked up the cake cutters today at Things Remembered. This was SOOO not something I was going to buy but I rationalized it by having a $20 off coupon and they were "on sale" for 29.99$ (regular price $60). Not too shabby! Still, I don't think my bank account is very happy with me at the moment! :|

I really cannot wait till there is a paycheck where I can actually save or not pay for something about a wedding! :)

tablescapes...

About a million months ago, my mom ordered chargers for the wedding. At first I wanted only black ones but then I found these really pretty red metallic ones online. She finally brought them over and I decided to bust one out to show what the a place seating would look like, sans favor or silverware or glassware.

TADA:

I wanted to do something different with the napkin.

What do you think?

Food Menus

My printer is going to kill me. I keep printing tons of stuff!

My next adventure is our menus for the tables. I ordered 150 Stardream Circle Card 5-1/4" from Envelopemall.

I then went to my trusty MS Word (I'm too ghetto to purchase publisher or anything like that...) and cut and pasted the menu that our Catering company gave us. Because Stardream paper is the biggest enemy to my otherwise easy going wedding planning, I printed out 20 at a time and each one I laid out all over the house and sprayed with aerosol hair spray so it dries better.

Finished results:

Cost: 36$ + shipping. I'm not including ink or my hair spray because, well, I used them for everything. Now, realizing I might have over my 150 count... I will be ordering from PaperSource because shipping isn't as much and it would get here sooner.

Bobble wha?

Okay, I'm one to try to most of our wedding to look timeless but there is one thing we ended up doing that will totally date our wedding to 2007... and it is our cake toppers.

Last night we finally go around to ordering our custom-made bobble heads from Whoop Ass Enterprises. (Don't you just love the name of the company!!!) Yes, I know this is a bit extravagant, but we aren't ordering special wine glasses, we aren't buy knives and such to cut the cake, we cut out costs all over to justify this one little thing.

Their form is nice and easy, asking lots of questions and easy uploading of photos. Today I got an email from the artist who is assigned to design ours. It says it will take 5-7 weeks so I think we have more than enough time for this.

So why are we doing this? Because we just do! In fact when my mom was asking about it, I evoked for the FIRST TIME ever (and probably the last) "it's our wedding." Then went on asking her why she wanted me to put something on top of a cake is isn't us at all... and she finally agreed that it fit us.

Anyhow, what are you putting on top of your yummy confectionery delights?

Place Cards Here

Have I ever told you how much I hate card boxes? Most wedding I go to are just the typical wedding card box that costs around a million dollars for something boring and white... AND that you will NEVER USE AGAIN! Nope...you evil wedding industry can't fool me! I think that is one of the main reason a lot of the things we are doing doesn't yell out "WEDDING" on it.

However, I did want something for cards to go so we don't lose anything. Yes, I am even trying to organize my gift table! I thought about using just a basket but didn't have any lying around that were small enough. And then I thought about a Wine Carry Case! (After the wedding I can make a keepsake box just big enough put items I couldn't scrapbook and out of harms way!)

Source

Now I know there is that divider in those type of cases but surely with a little elbow grease and a knife I could rip that sucker out of there! I think perhaps I'll have to make a little sign I can hang from the edges that say place cards here and I'm still wondering if I just leave the top open or make a slit for people to push the cards through? What do you think?

Are you doing anything different to your card box?

BLING BLING

When you have so much time between your wedding and the present time, you start to scanning the web to find new ways to make your wedding stand out from others. First you want the lighting to be this way, then you think about linens and colors, next is flowers, and that's when you stumble onto something so you SOO don't need but you "oh so want."

That is my feelings and "need" to have Acrylic Diamond Table Confetti. Seeing how I love the idea of sparkles and shine of my rock on my hand and even more so in candlelight, I thought how amazing the prisms would be with these beauties!!!

I'm sold!
